Back to Basics

Read Article →

Both of our outfits today are comprised of some fun affordable basics that can be worn in so many different ways. When shopping on a budget like we are, basics are definitely the way to go- your outfit options are endless!

Sweater Liz Claiborne (similar here) / Skirt Free People (now on sale here) / Belt Lucky Brand (similar here) / Necklace Damsel X Gorjana  / Purse Kate Spade (similar here and here) / Watch Fossil / Shoes JustFab

There is nothing that I love more than a great maxi skirt, and Free People is a master at the maxi's. I got this skirt a couple of years ago and the best part about it is that it never gets old. There are so many different ways to style it! Today (on a cold and rainy LA day) I opted for a comfy over sized black sweater, some great booties, and a simple belt to pull it all together.

I have heard way too often that "I'm too short for a maxi dress/skirt!" This is so not true. In fact, ask a tall person (i.e. anyone in my family aside from me) what their issues with maxi's are and they will say "I'm too tall for maxi dresses/skirts." It is all about finding the right fit for you.

"...It's just a little bag, but we'd feel naked in public without it."
- Carrie Bradshaw

Just as maxi skirts are a total must, skater skirts have made a huge impact on this season as well. The cute A-line fit is not only flattering, but also gives you just the right amount of fun & 'tude that you need!

Sweater Ann Taylor Loft (similar here) / Skirt Nordstrom Rack (similar here) / Booties Lucky Brand (similar here)/ Necklace Lucky Brand (similar here) / Cuff Vince Camuto (here) / Purse Tory Burch (here)

And as faux leather continues to be making a pleasant comeback every season, why not get a pleather skater skirt? A two in one wardrobe staple! I picked up this one from Nordstrom Rack only a few months ago and have already put so much use to it. It is especially fun to pair unexpected combinations together, like polka dots & pleather, truly the perfect way to make your look both sweet & sassy at the same time. Absolutely love!

Tuesday Tweed

Jacket Lucky Brand (here & similar here) / Tank Mango (similar here) / Jeans Lucky Brand (similar here) / Bag Tory Burch (here) / Shoes Vince Camuto (similar here)

In case we haven't met, you should know that I've become slightly obsessed with statement jackets- a major staple in my wardrobe that I used to completely neglect.  Now every time I walk into a store & see a jacket that I love, I just tell myself the truth--
you really can never have too many!

The fact is, my friend, you are not yet ready for the Fall season if you haven't gotten your fingers on a chic little tweed jacket! Inspired by the ever so famous & classic Chanel, this edgy little thing is pretty much the best of both worlds. Here I've thrown on my favorite pair of distressed boyfriend jeans and a graphic tank, but have instantly polished and dressed it up with this structured moto & some chunky heels. Trust me, a jacket like this one is a fun, easy way to feel put together when getting ready in a pinch! Now, time to find yours!

Vicky

Mad Hatter

Hats have always been so cool to me - that's why I bought them on a regular basis. However, I never really saw myself as a hat person, just a girl with a great collection that I never wore. Then one day I just decided that it was more about the confidence of wearing a hat than it was about being a "hat person."

There are a lot of times as women where we envy a man's daily ritual of getting dressed in the morning. Not only his ritual of getting out of bed, throwing on a shirt, and looking handsome, but also the comfort of his clothes. These pants are a great reason for them to envy us. They honestly feel like I am wearing pajamas, but the best part is that it doesn't look like I am wearing pajamas! Paired with some wedges and a cute blouse this is a go-to outfit for days that I am moving around a lot. Add the fabulous accessories of a Kate Spade color pop and an Indiana Jones inspired hat and your ready to take on the day!

Sunday Funday- Oyster Edition

Read Article →
Fishing with Dynamite, Manhattan Beach

Happy Sunday Funday, friends! For all you foodies out there (I know who you are), brace yourself for a new standard of deliciousness and jot down this little gem in Manhattan Beach on your list of to-dos.

This cozy, ocean-side seafood restaurant was made for all you raw bar oyster and fresh shellfish fans. Owned by the same Chef as one of my other South Bay faves, Manhattan Beach Post, I knew this place would be nothing short of amazing. I know some of you might be turned away by the $$$ flagged on trusty ol' Yelp, but let me reassure you as a fellow girl on a budget:

We opted for a half dozen oyster sampler and a half dozen of the raw Peruvian scallops, with a side of fries of course, totally amazing and totally enough for two people.

And, can we talk about the scallops?! So sweet & so fresh- perfectly accompanied by a bite of grapefruit to each one- oh-em-gee, I want to eat them everyday!

There were so many other choices on the menu that we had to just save for next time, because of course, dessert was calling our names.

Now, you definitely don't have to be as fully obsessed with pie as I am to appreciate this Key Lime Tart. Just imagine, graham cracker crust, key lime curd, a light meringue and lime zest on top. So good.

I will for sure being returning to FwD, and when I do, hope to see you there!

Vicky

Must Have Mustard

Happy Colors

In my mind, mustard yellow might just be that perfect year-round color- not only does it brighten up a soft neutral, but it can be such a great neutral itself. Truly, the color works its wonders in any of the four seasons, but I am quite certain there is something special about bringing out that darling pop of sunshine for Fall!

Top Loft (similar here) / Skirt Forever 21 (similar here)  / Flats Tory Burch (here) / Necklace BaubleBar (here) / Bracelet Kate Spade (here)

Today, I decided to go with this adorable heart printed blouse & my go-to Tory Burch flats for a sweet & girly twist, but mustard is such a subtle and rich color, it will match with almost anything & everything. Make it yours with a bold striped top or mix & match textures for extra fun! Just think, the options are endless and your outcome will always be golden!

Feature Friday

Denim Duo

Today, we are SO excited to bring to you our first roll out of Feature Fridays!

It all started one day when we found each other wearing almost the same exact outfit, but in a completely different way and fashion...of course. Our immediate reaction was that initial 'oh-em-gee we are twinning,' but then we realized that this wasn't the case at all. What we were doing was featuring the same item but wearing it in sync with our individual and personal styles. At that point, we just knew we had to share it with you all!

Girls, the magic of chambray is that you can rock it any way you want!

Pair it with a pair of Camo or printed jeans for a bit of an edge, and complete the look with a 90's throwback: denim on denim!

Jacket Lucky Brand (similar here)/ Top Lucky Brand (similar here)Jeans Current Elliott (similar here and here) Shoes Lucky Brand (similar here) / Watch Fossil / Bracelets Lucky Brand / Bag Kate Spade (similar here)

Camo skinny jeans are a must-have for this fall and winter! Denim on denim is strangely a win-win right now. Don't be afraid to do a 90's throwback... the 90's are back! Aren't buying it? Crop tops, mom jeans, overalls... need I say more?

--From a pair of fun striped espadrilles to your girliest sparkly flats, truly anything goes!--

If you are going for a more classic, preppy look, white skinnies are a clean, fresh way to lighten up your whole outfit. Who listens to that no white after Labor Day rule anyway right?!
And of course, don't forget to add your favorites-- even if this means girly bows & sparkles! Throw on a little moto jacket to give you just the right amount of edge you may be looking for.

Jacket Nordstrom (similar here) / Top Lucky Brand (similar hereJeans Abercrombie & Fitch (here) / Flats Zara (here) / Accessories JCrew (similar here) / Bag Tory Burch here

As you can tell, the two of us have given this top two very different voices & hope to have inspired you to style up chambray with your own special twist! How will you wear YOUR chambray?

ThreadALERT

New Season, New Chapter

SHERILYNN SHERROUSE
I am so excited to announce that ThreadAlert no longer is my blog, but a partnership blog between myself (Sherilynn) and my partner in crime Vicky Lee. We are completely different people whenever it comes to style, interests, and even our taste in frozen yogurt. However, we have a couple of things in common -- our love of fashion, food, traveling, and all things L.A. We are so excited to start our blog together, and sincerely hope that you find inspiration in it.

As you may or may not already know... my name is Sherilynn Sherrouse. I moved to LA in May in pursuit of my career through an internship. Since then I have been hired on full time in the fashion industry and I absolutely love my job. I am originally from Dallas, TX which is obvious because I say (and type) the word 'y'all' often. I love fashion and am a little bit of a shopaholic. I love food and have been a vegetarian for four years. I LOVE to laugh as well as making people laugh. My friends would (and have) describe me as a hippo loving diva hippie. Strange? YES, but that describes me well.

VICKY LEE
Hello friends! As mentioned, my name is Vicky Lee and I am SO excited to partner with Sherilynn here on ThreadAlert! ♡ Welcome and please enjoy the sweetest parts of life with us-  all things fashion, food, and fun!

Like my partner in crime Sherilynn, I have also just begun my journey into the fashion industry & am loving it thus far! And while the lovely lady above has indeed added "ya'll" to my vocabulary, I was not born, but definitely raised here in good ol' SoCal. As a recent UCLA grad, I've loved and still am exploring the gems LA has to offer, from them hipster cafes to all the phenomenal city views. Dessert is probably my main meal of the day, give or take a trade for some truffle mac & cheese. Of course, fashion speaking- I believe shopping may just be the smartest form of exercise...of the mind, heart, and body. Do we all agree? ;) Anyway, to give you a two word glimpse into my personal life and style, let's start with a lot of girly and a lot of giggles
