Hello & happy long weekend from both coasts once again!
What's a long weekend without a fun event to dress up for?

Nothing like the Ballet

I adore getting dressed up! Once I heard that I would be going to the NYC Ballet to see the Nutcracker I knew exactly which dress I was going to be wearing. Of course, I still had to go purchase it because (as I do often) I plan my outfits with things that I may not necessarily own.

Everything about the Koch Theater is extravagant and so lovely. The Nutcracker was spectacular with some of the best dancing I have ever seen!

If you ever get a chance to see the New York City Ballet... DO IT! I'm so glad that I got the opportunity to go, and found an excuse to buy this beautiful dress. My original plan was to wear it with nude heels and no tights, but the whole "feels like 22 degrees" sign on my phone made me change my mind. I opted for all black instead and was very pleased with the result.

 In the Neighborhood

I love my busy prints & bright colors, but sometimes I'm won over by just a simple, understated dress. I was drawn to this dress from Zara not only because of the rich, emerald green color, but because the cut was so simple yet eye-catching at the same time.

And I was so jealous of all of Sherilynn's NYC photos that I wanted to wear a coat too! ;) Kidding. But, it totally does get chilly down in SoCal too! I love that this dress is so versatile & perfect for summer weddings, but just adding a cute, white coat gives it a new classic look for the holiday season.  So even when you're at one of the many beautiful South Bay churches overlooking the ocean, you'll still be cozy & warm for days like today.

Like I've mentioned before, I'm obsessed with any sort of high mock/halter neck-- I feel like there's such a chic elegance to it, you can't help but feel chic too. And even though this dress fits like a glove, there is just enough structure to it to keep the look clean & classy. Zara, you get me every time.

What are you dressed up for tonight? ;)

From NY to LA Day Two-- Happy (Black) Friday!

New York When it Rains

Although I obviously prefer the sun shining when in New York, it was a cool kind of calm today while exploring some of the busiest places. We ventured to a charming little breakfast spot called Alice's Tea Room which if you can believe it, was more crowded then the steps of the MET and Central Park. I felt almost as if the city was giving me a private tour (which never happens) and I loved it!

Steps of the MET

Central Park
Although I was mad at my friend at first (for ruining my outfits of course), I'm glad that he told me to wear rain boots because the rain could not slow us down today! In fact, when we saw puddles we were like little kids on Christmas and jumped and stomped in them all. This was the last day of rain and I'm glad I can change back into shoes that are more fashionable and surprisingly more comfortable.

Central Park Mall
Like I said, this never happens... This is in the middle of the day in Central Park and it was an eery kind of beautiful with a single sax playing Christmas songs while about 10 people walked through the park.

There truly is no city like this city, and although I thought that I couldn't deal with the cold, it turns out that nothing can make me love it less!

All White Party

Girls, who says you need to wear all black on Black Friday? Today, I opted for just the opposite look with my favorite winter color combination- white on white. Yes- that's right, white after Labor Day. Totally allowed.

And what could be a more perfect location for a fresh, all white look than one of my favorite LA spots, the Getty. Of course in sunny SoCal, you can do winter white with something as light as this chic pleather tank & some skinnies.  As always, I also love throwing in a little surprise texture in the mix & had to add an adorable white sequinned blazer to contrast against this sleek pleather top.

You wouldn't think it possible, but the Getty becomes a whole different level of gorgeous at night. The clean white architecture already gleams so beautifully in the daylight, but once the sun starts to set, the entire place truly glistens. I love.

I could spend forever wandering this place-- as a museum filled with unique exhibits & iconic gardens, the Getty is such a beautiful piece of art itself. Please go if you haven't already & take me with you!

A Very LACMA Thanksgiving

Read Article →
Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving from threadALERT!

Since we won't be together this Thanksgiving we decided to do a little celebration before Sherilynn left for NYC at LACMA! Don't forget to thank the people in your life today, don't take anyone for granted.

Obviously I probably don't need this coat in LA, but traveling this holiday gave me a great excuse to buy a fabulous new coat from one of my favorites - Kate Spade Saturday. I love it's chic design, and even though it is a plain black wool coat, the side closure makes it unique.

As I was planning out my outfits for New York, Anthropologie decided to give me (and everyone else) a gift of 20% off of sale dresses. How can you resist when the dress is this beautiful? Dropwaist is definitely a new obsession of mine, add colorblocking and this dress is a win!

I hope that y'all have a wonderfully happy Thanksgiving. If you watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade look out for me... I'll be there!

I always love an impromtu field trip to LACMA's "Urban Lights." We decided to dress it up for our little Thanksgiving post with our favorite classic pieces of the moment- black & white chic for one of LA's most iconic spots.

Every girl needs a little black dress (or more than one of course)- when in doubt, you know an LBD is totally appropriate for any occasion. I'm especially obsessed with high neck dresses-- the cut is entirely flattering & even a casual dress like this one can automatically look & feel classy.

You can't go wrong by adding a pair of fun colorblocked heels either!

Happy, happy Thanksgiving friends- we are so thankful for all your love & support through this new venture!  We couldn't do this without you. :)

From NY to LA

Happy Thanksgiving week dear friends. We are SO excited to be posting from opposite ends of the country this week-- from one fabulous city to another, we bring you a taste of fun & fashion from NY to LA! Hope you enjoy!

Concrete Jungle

New York is (and always will be) my favorite city! I know I will eventually end up here, but for now I love getting to visit. I landed just yesterday, was immediately set to explore with my good friend, and explore we did!

Washington Square Park
After walking around a bit it started to snow just lightly enough to not be too cold, but just hard enough to be able to tell that it was snow. My first day could not have been more perfect!

Carrie Bradshaw's Apartment

NYC is definitely polar opposite from LA as far as weather is concerned, so to be prepared I bought this beautiful Kate Spade Saturday coat and have completely fallen in love with it! My look is very layered to keep me warm, and of course, I had to bring rain boots to stomp in those puddles!

You See L.A.

When thinking of my favorite spots in LA, the first place that comes to mind is UCLA of course! Forever holding a soft spot in my heart, campus always brings back such a rush of memories even though college really was not that long ago... Cheesy I know, but I just had to bring out a little school spirit & rock that Bruin blue & gold for a day. ;)

I absolutely adore a good pair of structured trousers. When I saw this bright yellow pair on sale at Banana, I was immediately sold. Go get your hands on Banana's fitted ankle pants-- seriously my favorite cut! I could not be more in love with the subtle brocade detailing-- so unique and surprisingly easy to mix & match with! I am all about taking risks with mixed patterns & mixed textures- the more the merrier!
