Feature Friday- Plaid Scarf

Read Article →

Plaid scarves are so on trend right now & we are absolutely loving this black & white version by Lucky Brand (on sale right now!!). The wonderful thing about plaid is that it can be a bold statement on its own or it can be neutralized by mixing it with other prints.

On a day like today, when the week has been long and tiring, there is nothing that I want more than a comfortable outfit and some coffee! I found this sweater when I was thrifting one day and loved the sheer details of it. Today, I dressed it way down with some black pants, flats, and added the scarf as my statement piece.

Scarves can really add that extra 'something' to your outfit, and this double printed scarf is the perfect addition to any wardrobe. Of course, I love black and white so it had me at first glance. I love Vicky's angle of mixing it with other prints (my favorite thing to do!) and a pop of color, but for today I stuck to my usual black & white combo.

Top H&M / Jeans Lucky Brand / Booties Aldo / Scarf Lucky Brand (here) / Bag Olivia & Joy / Cuff Lucky Brand (here)

I adore any sort of quirky combination so its no surprise this cozy scarf won me over with its modern plaid print on one side and gorgeous tapestry on the other. To add just a little more spunk, I paired it against a simple striped tee & my favorite coated jeans. Print on print on print (& splash of color), yes please!

How are you wearing plaid this season?

Military Girl

Jacket Lucky Brand / Dress Urban Outfitters / Boots Nordstrom / Cuff Lucky Brand / Necklace Abbypointe

Tried & true, military and lace is one of my favorite combinations to date. I'm loving that this play on "soft attitude" is continuing to trend in fresh, updated ways. Lucky for us shopaholics, stores are always coming out with new versions of the forever trusty military jacket. Throwing this cute hooded anorak over a darling slip dress like this lace one makes an almost too perfect match!

A lot of girly with a little edge-- you know I'm all there.

Vicky

Floral and Plaid

Read Article →

Mixing prints is something that I really love to do, & this dress from Zara already does it for me! Right when I saw it, I knew that it would soon be part of my wardrobe. Mixing soft prints like florals, with more masculine prints like plaid, is a very present street style trend right now and definitely worth trying out.

Of course, like most everything else, I paired it back to my trusty black leather jacket from Lucky Brand and some flat booties to give my look an edgier feel. However, this style can go either way - edgy or a little bit girly. Pair it with some heels and a sweet necklace and you have a completely different look.

Emerald City

Read Article →

Happy Monday friends! We might be well into 2014 but I will forever be a sucker for emerald-- the chosen color of last year. And of course, it just so happens to be my birthstone too..:)

Dress Boutique / Scarf Lucky Brand (similar here) / Boots Lucky Brand / Cuff Lucky Brand (here)

In all seriousness though, I was immediately drawn to the rich color & sleek fit of this sweet shirt-tail dress. And while it has definitely been a rather sunny January, adding a chunky tapestry scarf is sometimes all you need for that extra pop of color & winter coziness. Try pairing two unlikely jewel tone colors for that perfect contrast-- you'd be surprised at what you can come up with!

Turtle Turtle

One of the beautiful things about living in LA is that shorts can be worn during these winter months. I always get cold, so lately I have been pairing my shorts back to my favorite chunky sweaters- especially loving this cozy turtleneck from H&M.

I realize that most of you can't really try this outfit out until a few months from now, but weather permitting, I encourage you to pair your chunkiest sweater with some dressy shorts and rad shoes for an easy everyday outfit.

Do You Tutu

Tulle skirts might just be my new obsession & I don't know about you, but channeling a little Carrie Bradshaw is always a good idea in my book.

I had been on a serious hunt for the perfect tulle skirt for ages & died when I saw this sweet little tutu online from the LOFT! While it is most certainly my favorite statement piece at the moment, this skirt is actually much more versatile than you'd think.

Today, I decided to edge up the look with this cool motorcycle sweater & my go-to leather jacket. Oh, and can't forget a little red lippy for some extra sass!

As quoted by the ever-so-wise Kate Spade, "Playing dress up starts at the age of five & truly never ends." Totally agree.

Happy Friday & have a fabulous weekend darlings! ;)

Vicky

Texture

Read Article →

Texture is something that I pay close attention to when buying clothes. I love trying out new textures and mixing & matching them to add another dimension to my outfits. This shirt stuck out to me in the midst of an Anthropologie sale while I was home in Dallas. It was the very last one and the texture of this soft shirt really caught my eye.

I kept it simple today with some relaxed Lucky jeans and my go-to black heels. I decided to add this amazing statement cuff that I managed to find at a sample sale to give my outfit just one more element of texture.

Top Zara / Shorts BCBG / Sandals / Zara / Cuff Lucky Brand / Bangle Vince Camuto / Ring Lucky Brand

I love a simplistic take on fairly edgy, statement pieces. I also just had to bring this top back out for such a gorgeous day in LA like today. Shorts & a tank in January? Yes please!

You must already know I'm a sucker for all things leather & pleather, but I'm also currently loving anything sort of unexpected like this top's asymmetrical hemline & contrasting textures. While the front is this edgier pleather, it totally comes to soft knit for the back.

And how adorable are these tribal shorts! (not to mention, incredibly comfy) I especially love that both these shorts or top could easily stand alone as the big idea of an outfit, but put together, one kind of balances the other out in a relaxed but fun way.

Mixing & matching pieces that exist in your own closet can sometimes be the best form of shopping!
You never know what you might find.

Vicky

Headgear

Read Article →

I bought this headband a couple of years ago back when I had a pixie cut. I never felt like I could pull it off with short hair, but saved it because I thought it was really cool. The other day I was so happy to find it in my drawer and threw it on because I can finally pull it off!

I was looking for a long duster for a while until I ran across this perfect one at a sample sale. Long sweaters are great to have in your closet for dresses, but also for spicing up a simple outfit.

Sweater Lucky Brand / Shirt Thrifted / Jeans Lucky Brand / Shoes Milk & Honey / Watch Fossil / Headband Anthropologie

Both of these special pieces are very bohemian on their own and paired together today it gives my outfit an extreme bohemian vibe, perfect for a day hanging out in LA!

"The Rachel"

Read Article →

I think it's pretty safe to assume that when people refer to "The Rachel," they're talking about Jennifer Aniston's signature hairstyle in early F.R.I.E.N.D.S episodes.

Well, upon first glance at this darling slip dress, the one person that popped up in my mind was indeed Rachel Green. Granted I was not thinking of her hair, but of her signature quirky fashion sense-- true 90's girly with that perfect touch of glam.  I totally love & totally relate.

We all know I'm just a tad obsessed with any sort of open-back dress & this was definitely one I could not pass up. I really don't usually go for midi dresses, but for some reason I fell in love with the understated ditzy floral print & simple spaghetti strap detail of this one. So Rachel, right?!

Dress Tildon / Jacket Blanc Noir / Heels Zara / Cuff Lucky Brand / Necklace BaubleBar

Plus, this pretty little thing is perfect for a date night or just a fun, girly daytime look for the office. So hop on back to the 90's for a second, find a throwback cami dress that speaks to you, and channel your inner "Rachel" with me. ;)

Hope you had a lovely long weekend, F.R.I.E.N.D.S~

xoxo,
Vicky

The SimpleThings in Life

Read Article →

This week was definitely an interesting week for me. It seemed like unexpected situations, random encounters, and unlikely circumstances would not come to a halt. So, when it came to decide what to wear today, I automatically reached for a comfy and simple dress.

Dress Altar'd State  / Bracelet Wolfhardt / Watch Fossil / Shoes Converse

I love dresses and rompers, and I pick mine out by the little details that each one has to offer. This plain dress made it into my wardrobe because of its side slits. While this dress is not meant to be sexy at all, the high slits in the side give it that little oomph to make it special to me.

Striped Tee

We do love a simple striped tee-- truly the perfect go-to for our everyday routine. Thus, it only made sense to us that we finally feature some good ol' stripes.

We also both happened to be wearing fun finds from our recent Buffalo Exchange run! We know, we know-- they don't call us partners in crime for no reason! But even when we might be on the same wavelength, we love that we still always happen to style our feature in the most opposite ways.

Top Zara / Vest Buffalo Exchange / Belt Lucky Brand / Jeans LOFT / Shoes JustFab / Watch Fossil / Bracelet Lucky Brand

I definitely love the menswear look and when I found this vest at Buffalo Exchange I fell in love! I have found so many ways to wear this bad boy, and am sure that I will find many more. I love how it made my outfit today look like menswear and with some cute pumps it came together beautifully.

Tee J.Crew (similar here) / Shorts LOFT (similar here) / Belt Vintage / Flats Lucky Brand / Necklace Lucky Brand (similar here) / Bangle Kate Spade (here) / Bow Forever 21

I definitely went for a preppy, nautical look today. Especially with this tee's straight fit & unique stitched texture, I imagined it tucked into white structured shorts right away. Of course, to add to the crisp & clean feel of this look, I chose this sweet white statement necklace & my go-to white pleather bow.

Sherilynn actually found this tee for me while we were perusing Buffalo & we both immediately died over the subtle detailing of it. Simple & sophisticated, the embroidery is what makes this otherwise very normal striped tee so special. You know me, I'm a sucker for anything with a little twist to it.

Stripes are a staple in both of our wardrobes. These are just two ways to wear them, but there are so many more. Stripes are a great way to try mixing up with prints or just being your print to a solid. What is your favorite way to wear stripes?
